Rosetta Stone for Y2 and upwards...

From Year 2 onwards children receive a Rosetta Stone account at the ISH. Mrs. Stock, EAL teacher in year 2 and 3 is also practising her languages on the picture below. It is great fun!

A few years ago The International School of the Hague has purchased a subscription to Rosetta Stone. This is a well known language learning program offering 25 languages. The website for this is: http://thehague.rosettastoneclassroom.com.  It is available on both school and home computers, as it is accessible through the internet. The ISH Primary EAL Department registers EAL children after their arrival for this program in order to help them improve their English.  A welcome message, with a login (a six digit school ID number) and a password (“password” or "rosetta") is sent to your email shortly after registration.
If you haven’t received the email, please contact your child’s EAL teacher or the school librarian, Mrs. Tomljanovich at i.tomljanovich@ishthehague.nl

One of the requirements for using this program is an Internet connection and a microphone/speaker headset (or a build-in microphone), like the kind you use to communicate via Skype. When you start the program from home, it will check if you have the “speech component” software installed on your computer. You need to install this small program to be able record your child’s voice and check his or her pronunciation. Please also select American English as your child’s language of choice, as it has more levels to progress through.

Your child’s EAL teacher will give him or her instructions about how to use this program and when to start. You may try using it as well for other languages, but please do not start with the English program yourself, as it will interfere with your child’s level. We hope your child will enjoy practicing English with Rosetta Stone!

Kind Regards,
Mrs. Lara Rikers
EAL Coordinator and EAL Year 1 Teacher

If your child is in Year 1 and you wish to register him or her please contact me (l.rikers@ishthehague.nl), as they are not automatically signed up.
