Reception

Quite often, I seem to write that we have been having fun in Reception and this time is no different, I am happy to say. Since the beginning of this year, the children have been learning about animals and we have been playing many games related to animals. We have been learning about under the sea creatures and we have been talking about animal habitats.

A couple of weeks ago we read the Rainbow Fish. One little girls summed up the story in two sentences: "The fish don't have friends. He have this ones (shiny scales)." This led to discussions about being friends and about sharing.
The children coloured in their own rainbow fish, chose one shiny scale for their fish and cut it out (when you are only four or five years old, using a pair of scissors can be quite a challenge). The children talked vividly about favourite colours, shiny scales and their ability to colour:
"I am very good at colouring. I make my fish gooder than you."
"My mummy loves this colour too"
"and auch this." - One girl liked all the colours.
"Look Miss Susanne, I have the green scale."

We made a small display and the children put up their rainbow fish on the wall. As she put up her Rainbow Fish, one girl said: "and my fish water swim".
