Spring in Reception

At the EAL table this week, we have had two separate activities. With our beginner group we have played a counting board game. The children learned about taking turns, counting and moving their game piece. As always the children were very excited about who would win!
Fajr said: "It's not Fajr's turn."
Andree was very happy that he won: "Me, finally be the winner."

As part of our spring theme, we have been making a garden display. The children talked about their own gardens. Some children have gardens here in the Netherlands and others had gardens in their home country with different types of plants (e.g. cactus). Then they drew a picture of something that belongs in a garden, for example a tree, a flower, a spider, a ladybird etc. They cut out their pictures and we put them on our display.

Despoina had forgotten the word cactus and explained it like this: "If you touch it it makes your finger hurt."
Connor was interested in knowing what some of the other children had drawn and asked: "What did you make, Jerry?" Connor, by the way, drew a beautiful rabbit.
Kareem said that "the garden has some animals."
Anusha said: "I'm gonna make a flower in a pot."
And Simon told me in German that he has two apple trees in his garden in Austria.
