Y5 - Tongue Twisters

There are lots of ways to learn a language but pronunciation and fluency can always be tricky - especially in English where there are 44 different ways to combine the sounds of the 26 letters! They're not just for children either, but are also used as a warm-up by actors, politicians, and public speakers to help them sound clear when speaking.

We explored tongue twisters in our home languages after Ben told us about a fantastic one he had made up on holiday with his family.

Then Rosalie told us a typical Dutch one but explained that it wouldn't be a tongue twister in English as not enough of the starting sounds are the same in English.

Do you know any tongue twisters in your mother tongue that are still tongue twisters when you translate them into English?

Try out some of our other tongue twisters!
