Even in lockdown, EAL students are
gaining many benefits in developing their English language skills. Take for
example the recent EAL/Home Language task in year 3. Students were asked to
compare what they would have for breakfast in their home country to what they
have in The Netherlands by making and labelling a poster and even recording it.
It cannot be stated enough that a strong home language is essential for
developing a strong and competent additional new language. Doing an online task
is also giving the students important language acquisition practice by
developing all the skills of reading and comprehension (of online tasks),
listening (to online instructions and teacher feedback), writing, vocab,
grammar and speaking.
Here are just a few of the great examples from our enthusiastic students.
