Students who learn an additional language greatly benefit from the effective use of technology. Translation software enables them to instantly make connections between new vocabulary in the language they are learning and vocabulary they already know in their home language. Over the past months, we have been trialling the use of an online picture dictionary which enables students to record words in their home language(s), Dutch and English and also practice the use of these words in meaningful sentences.
They students can put the new vocabulary into categories based on their IPC units, the books they read etc.
In this way, the students progressively increase their vocabulary knowledge and create their own online picture dictionary which they can refer back to at any time.
