Visit From Jim Cummins

Visit From Jim Cummins
Recently, Professor Jim Cummins, from the University Of Toronto, Canada, visited The ISH.  Jim Cummins is famous for his work in bilingual education. Teachers and parents were able to attend his presentations and to have their questions answered.  Professor Cummins’ message to us all is to maintain and support Mother Tongue in school and at home, and to be aware that a high level of reading engagement is a critical indicator of academic success. Reading engagement can be in English and Mother Tongue as reading skills can transfer between languages.

So curling up with a book is one of the best things you can do with your child to help them do well at school.
