Multilingual Me Brain Unit

At the heart of our International school, we have a deep commitment to value and develop the Mother Tongue of our students. As part of this vision, we strongly believe that:

“Every child needs to come to school and find a piece of home” - Dr. Else Hamayan, Educational consultant and Author

Our commitment to Mother Tongue learning is based on the most current language research and a drive to continually improve the learning experience of our ISH children.
We readily encourage our children to bring their home culture and language into the doors
of ISH.

At the start of this school year we have launched a Multilingual unit alongside the IPC Units "Ourselves" and "The Brain". We felt is was important to put the research in the children's hands to help them understand why being multilingual is both an advantage as well as a vital part of who they are. Enjoy some samples of work that are currently on display throughout the school.

If you happen to be in the Year 2 corridor, this interactive display is a must to check out together with your child.

Identity Cards- What makes you feel at home?

Meet Olav in Year 6C, who has created this video to explain how using Dutch and Mother Tongue makes him feel. Olav chose to use Dutch to make this video more accessible for our community. His Mother Tongue is actually Norwegian. Using his Dutch makes him feel more at home in the Netherlands. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and language talents, Olav!

Thank you to all staff and children who contributed so actively and enthusiastically to this new unit. They make our school such a unique place to be!
