In Year 4, the children have been learning how to write narratives about a true event from their lives. There are a lot of elements to writing a story, and when our new EAL pupils start at the school they are not only learning in a new language, but also a new way to envisage writing a story.
In September, Jafar began accessing the writing
curriculum through his mother tongue of Arabic.
Initially, he shared his ideas verbally via the translation
app on the iPad, and then wrote them in Arabic.

After a few weeks of this, he began to write his
stories in Arabic and then translate them into English.
Now, at the end of both the unit and his first half term
at ISH, he has written a complete story in English.
