Every Tuesday afternoon, student helpers from the Secondary School join the Primary School children in their classrooms to learn and play in their home language(s). This enables the children to use their languages and express their cultural identities in school. The children's home language(s) are given equal status to the language of learning. This is a very powerful message that we believe makes a big impact on the lives of all children at ISH.
Here are some examples of the children in Year 1 who were communicating in Ukrainian, German and Arabic with their student helpers and learning through play.
Can you guess what language Omar (1R) and Fahad (1D) are speaking with Salma?
Can you tell what Marko and Andrii (1BW) are speaking about and in what language?
Maybe you know what language Noah (1D) and Adrian are chatting in?
