In
Reception, we have been having fun learning about numbers, colours and body
parts. We’ve done lots of talking and used useful language such as have, need,
same, different, how many, etc.
First
we played with monsters, matching them by colour and body part and talking
about “How many” of each they had e.g. Miki noticed that her monster had “4 eye.
They green!”.
Then we played a card game based on the song 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes'. Every time a special card was used we jumped up and sang the song, getting faster and faster each time. This further helped us with learning about body parts, and also in practicing our counting as we talked about how many we 'have' and how many we 'need'.
The children were very observant and cooperative playing together -
Oisin pointed out that "She has 4, like me" about his friends cards.
Laura said "I have 3 and me need 1. Need shoulders!". Alvin loved
singing and was very insistent that he wanted to "Sing faster, faster,
faster!!!" each time.
We
later explored body parts and numbers by hunting down plastic mini-beasts and
comparing different things about them e.g. colour, legs, eyes, size, habitat, etc.
Tahsin
and Janek found an ant. Janek said “It is very strong. Like me!”
