Year 1 - And More Translanguaging!

Translanguaging is the act performed by bilinguals, of accessing different linguistic features or various modes of what are described as autonomous languages in order to maximise communicative potential.  (Ophelia Garcia, 2009)

Here is another example of one of our young EAL learners really thinking and exploring language!  Alessia's mother tongue is French and she is learning English.  (She also speaks Romanian - amazing!)

Alessia was telling that she had gone to the school 'International Fair' in the weekend and wondered why it was called a 'fair'.  She said she had heard the word 'fair' but only to mean 'That's not fair!!' and she wondered how they were connected.

Have a listen to the amazing conversation about homophones in English.  This made us wonder if these exist in French?

These wonderings help us make connections between our languages!  Amazing.
