The IPC unit the Y6 students are working on is called "AD 900" and it focuses on history and learning about ancient civilisations.

Here are some key elements that are helping EAL students learn new vocabulary:
1. The use of visuals (such as pictures).
2. Using prior knowledge of words in the home language to help understanding in English.
3. Application of the vocabulary knowledge into meaningful sentences.
4. The definition of words: it really helps students to test their knowledge of new vocabulary by getting them to explain the meaning of a word to someone else.
The acquisition of any new vocabulary can be supported at home by using these strategies.
