In Year 2 we had great fun exploring the different ways
various languages encode the sounds that animals make. We were very surprised
to see how unconnected some of them are, especially for certain animals like the
frogs. At the same time, it was interesting to discover that almost every
language we looked at seems to agree that cats go “miaow”.
