Year 5 - Writing Workshop: Shifting from formal to informal writing

As Year 5 had been working hard the past months to develop their formal writing voice for persuasive essays, it was time to switch gears. To prepare for play script writing, students in Year 5M were made aware of how to shift formal language into conversational tone. This was needed to capture the way real people speak, as plays primarily consist of realistic character dialogue. Mr. Martin helped students to illustrate these language differences through role-play scenarios everyone could follow. Shifting from formal to conversational tone was then explored on paper. As a result, our EAL students in class are learning to be very effective writers, changing their word choices to suit their writing purpose. Well done 5M!
