In Year 4 we are working on writing great character descriptions.
We chose a characteristic like 'size' or 'good/bad' and brainstormed all of the synonyms or words that could be used to describe this quality.
Then we spent a long time deciding which was the most intense to the least intense. We put them on a strip of paper. These are called 'Word Clines'. Click here to learn more!
Have a look at these videos. Listen for negotiation between the students when discussing the adjectives. It's really interesting to hear them decide which is 'nicer' or 'bigger' or 'more positive'.
