ECIS - EAL and Mother Tongue Conference

During the holidays most of the EAL Team spent time in beautiful Copenhagen to attend the ECIS EAL and Mother Tongue Conference to learn more about language acquisition and multilingualism.

Nyhavn, Copenhagen

We were privileged to be able to listen to and learn from the gurus of language acquisition:
From left: Dr Jim Cummins, Dr Fred Genesee, Dr Pauline Gibbons
Dr Paul Kei Matsuda, Alex Rawlings, Dr Else Hamayan and Dr Stephen Krashen.

Two of our EAL teachers presented at the conference and were introduced by Dr Cummins himself.
Dr Cummins spoke very highly of their presentation and the work that they are inspiring in the areas of Mother Tongue and Identity language here at ISH.  Very high praise indeed :)

Lara Rikers, Mindy McCracken and Dr Cummins

Our EAL team attended a variety of workshops and keynote lectures around the theme:
The Power of Multilingual Classrooms
in International Education.

We have come back more inspired than ever, that being multilingual is not just a part of us, it is the whole of us!  We want to make sure the work we are doing at ISH embraces, nurtures and promotes ALL of our languages and cultures.
