Our Year 6 guided reading group have been
reading a comprehension on “kimbap”- Korean sushi roll in the form of an
information text. In our first lesson,
we read through the text identifying difficult words and finding their meaning. We were focusing on comprehension of text.
In our second lessons we focused on specific
information in the text. We looked at
how the text was written and found that the recipe was not written in an easy
to read form, as it was the imbedded in the text. The group were then asked to
find the vocabulary that made up the instruction for making the Kimbap. We identified the ingredients and the steps
for making the food.
We then started to write our own recipe
by listing the ingredients we would use, in a more easily read format.
On our third lesson, we needed to rewrite our instructions in
step format. Initially, we used play dough to make the different ingredients
for our own Kimbap, which we really enjoyed.

How to
make *kimbap*
It is pretty easy to make a
kimbap. It's just like a sushi.
Things you will need are
- salted
seaweed
- cooked
rice
- shaved
carrot
- meat
1. You lay a sheet of seaweed
on the bamboo mat.
2. Then put your cooked
rice on but don't but too much.
3. Put all your other
ingredients on top of the cooked rice.
4. Then roll it all
together into a cylinder shape.
5. Gently cut it into
pieces.
6. Put it on a plate then
if you want you can add some sauce.
Enjoy

At the end of the lesson we enjoyed a feast
of real sushi.
