Year 1 - Translanguaging

Translanguaging is the act performed by bilinguals, of accessing different linguistic features or various modes of what are described as autonomous languages in order to maximise communicative potential.  (Ophelia Garcia, 2009)

Here at ISH we LOVE hearing children use all of their languages to access the curriculum and to make connections when learning something new.  Here in Year 1, Marko noticed the similarities between words he was learning in English, to Serbian (his mother tongue).  Wonderful!  This means he has made a connection between his two languages!
